AT HOME WORKOUT ESSENTIALS

at home workout essentials

Coming at you girls from my living room today to chat about my at home workout essentials! With being quarantined to my small apartment, I’ve had to get creative with my workouts. I don’t have a lot of extra space to workout in and have minimal equipment but I have found a new at home workout routine that works and the best part is… I’m actually seeing results! Today, I wanted to share my at home fitness must have’s including my minimal workout equipment, favorite fitness apps to get you sweating, and my go to workout outfits that keep me on track to hit my goals. I’m determined to not let this quarantine get in the way of staying healthy and most importantly happy!

WORKOUT EQUIPMENT

A lot of the workouts I do at home need minimal equipment, if any at all! Usually in my everyday workout, I use a yoga mat so I am not sweating on my floors or rugs (ew) and some type of weight. I know that weights are hard to come by during this quarantine so if the ones below are sold out I recommend using things in your house. I used our laundry detergent, gallons of water or juice, whatever you can easily hold and give you an extra push. One thing I love incorporating into my workouts is a resistance band! I love the Tone It Up bands from Target but I also linked an awesome set that gives you a variety of resistance in the pack. There’s SO many ways you can workout using resistance bands! If you type in Youtube “resistance band workout” you will see plenty of videos to target your arms, booty, abs and more. I shared my favorite at home workout equipment below!

WORKOUT BRAS/TOPS

I wanted to break down workout clothes into sections so it will be easier to find that you need! When I’m doing an at-home workout in my living room I usually just wear a bra so I don’t have to do more laundry (life hack haha) so there are plenty linked here. I am a bit of a chesty girl (34D/DD) so having bras that are supportive and hold the girls up while I’m working out is KEY! I also have a few favorite tops thank are tanks, short sleeve, and long sleeve depending on the weather. I wear my true size in everything linked below!

WORKOUT SHORTS/PANTS

Moving on to workout shorts and pants! Not going to lie, 9 times out of 10 you will catch me working out in leggings or some type of cropped legging. I find that is is more comfortable during my workouts but I do have a few shorts that I love! I wear my true size in all linked below. :)

SHOES + ACCESSORIES

I never realized how important it is to have a good pair of shoes when working out. If your shoes are not great, it can lead to lower back problems and you are more prone to injury. I’m speaking from experience! I am a member at Orange Theory and noticed my lower back was KILLING me every time I ran on the treadmill and thought it was just my form. Turns out, my shoes were just really old and weren’t giving me the support I needed! I bought these Brooks running shoes and never had back problems since. They are a little bit of a splurge from what I usually get BUT they are worth every penny in my opinion. PRO TIP: size up a half size in your workout shoes because your feet swell when you workout! This will help eliminate any rubbing or irritability when you are getting your workout in. I also shared some of my favorite hair ties to wear when working out, socks, and other accessories that keep me focused on my workout and not on what I am wearing.

FITNESS APPS + YOUTUBE VIDEOS

When I am not in quarantine, you can usually find me at Orange Theory 4-5 times a week! I LOVE group classes and having the sense of community and accountability while working out. But when gyms are closed or when I am trying to save money, I turn to a few fitness apps and Youtube videos to help me get a good workout in at home. These apps and videos are extremely affordable and still give you results! Just because they can be done at home, doesn’t mean they are easy.

MY GO TO APPS:

SWEAT APP by Kayla Itsines

This is my tried and true work out app for a few years now because of the versatility of the app! It was created by an Australian trainer, Kayla Itsines, and she’s brought on other trainers and their programs to choose from. My favorite program on the app is the BBG plan lead by Kayla herself. Each week, you have a set of 3 30 minute workouts to complete, at your own pace, on your own time, to give you results. You can do all of the exercises in the comfort of your own home and they make you sweat (hints the name of the app) in about 30 minutes time. It is basically giving you access to a personal trainer, in an app. You can get grocery lists, meal ideas, and more! Very user friendly and an app I recommend to all my friends and family. If you want to see the amazing results from this app, type in #bbgprogress on Instagram and you will see why I love it so much.

TONE IT UP

Is another app I absolutely love lead by two amazing women, Kat and Karina, who I love! The app has a weekly workout schedule like the SWEAT app but it also has tons of on demand videos as well. Their workout program is inspiring, effective, includes live classes and 10- to 40-minute workout videos. One cool thing about their classes is you can see who is taking class with you from all over the world! If you’re looking for a sense of community and accountability, this is a great option for you! I also use their supplements that are sold at Target to keep me on track to hit my goals. Their chocolate protein and energy pre-workout powders are my all time favorite!

YOUTUBE VIDEOS

If you are not sure if fitness apps are for you, that’s ok! Youtube has plenty of free videos that also give you amazing results and get you sweating without breaking the bank. I have linked some of my favorite workout videos below to work all areas of the body!
